Q&A (Galaxy S7 Edge): How to hide photo albums?

April 11, 2016 by Ethan

Question:

What is the best way to hide certain photo albums on my Galaxy S7 Edge? Preferably, a way that doesn’t need to install a 3rd party app.

Answer:

The easiest way to hide the photo albums/folders on your Galaxy S7 Edge is by using the built-in Private mode. Here’s how:

You’ll need to setup the Private mode, before you can move any photo folders to Private.

i. Instructions for Android 7.0 Nougat

  1. From your device’s Settings, go to Lock screen and security > Private mode.
  2. Slide the switch to the on position. If this is your first time turning this feature on, you’ll need to follow the on-screen instructions to set it up.

  3. Once you’re done setting up the Private mode with your access password, open the Gallery app, then select the albums that you want to hide, and then tap Menu button > Move to Private.

  4. When you finish moving the albums to Private, go back to your device’s Settings > Lock screen and security > Private mode to turn off the Private mode. Note: Doing so, the albums in Private will be hidden from the Gallery app.

Tip: You can also tap the Private mode button from the quick settings panel to quickly turn on and off the Private mode.

ii. Instructions for Android 6.0 Marshmallow

  1. From your phone’s Settings, go to Privacy and safety > Private mode.
  2. Slide the switch to the on position. If this is your first time turning this feature on, you might need to follow the on-screen instructions to set it up.

  3. Open Gallery, select the album that you want to hide, and then tap More > Move to Private.
    galaxys7edge hide photo album_2
  4. Once you’re done moving the album to Private, go to phone’s Settings > Privacy and safety > Private mode to turn off the Private mode. Note: Turning off the Private mode makes the hidden albums invisible in Gallery.

Tip: A quicker way to turn on and off the Private mode would be using the (Private mode)toggle button on the notification panel.

To view and unhide a hidden photo album

  1. From your phone’s Settings, go to Privacy and safety > Private mode, and slide the switch to the on position.
  2. Open Gallery, the album with a lock icon in the lower left corner is a hidden album.
    galaxys7edge hide photo album_3
  3. To unhide, select the album, and then tap More > Remove from Private.

My S7 does not have privacy safety in the settings, is there something else you have to click first?

If your S7 has been updated to run Android Nougat, the path will be slightly different. It should be something like this: From the device’s Settings > Lock screen and security > Private mode.

If you still can’t get the Private mode option by following this path, try searching ‘private mode’ in the Settings.

Why is it that some albums give me the option to Move To Private and some albums don’t?

I haven’t had this problem on my unit. Just make sure you have the Private mode turned on. The ‘Move to Private’ option only visible when ‘Private mode’ is turned on.

I love sexy girls’ photos and videos, but my wife doesn’t, so I want to have a private vault for me to hide private images and videos. And one day, I found LEO Privacy, this app is very useful for me to hide images and videos. Love it!but it looks like that your way is amazing, I will have a try.https://goo.gl/rl0dX8

I use Galaxy S7 Edge. But I use LEO Privacy to lock my important apps.LEO Privacy looks well designed and works properly. Its so good and it secures my mobile, I can use it to hide videos and images, and i can use it to see who want to pry my phone with break-in-alert function. No problem in this application. Just recommand this to you.
